Braid, Fluoro, or Mono

So true Kevin, so many options. And your use for the rod can also dictate what you use. When I was looking for distance at all cost for Striper boils my best performer was a mojo bass with nanobraid. It will throw a jumping minnow incredibly far. But that was just for distance. Specific uses may change your set up.

I was fishing a boil in Striper CIty once and Dan Spitzer rolled up and asked if he could join. I don't know what he was using but he was throwing a spook about twice as far as I could. (I was maybe just a little jealous.) Maybe he will chime in.

Way back when it would have been Silver Thread Excalibur - a co-polymer. Later on Power Pro 15 or 20 lb. braid with a 12 lb. Excalibur leader. I still like the co-polymer (very abrasion resistant and ties a good knot). Probably a 7' G. Loomis bait casting or spinning rod. I have both that I use for boils.
