May 16-17 Marty Hatley and Brett Branch w/Sam Sherwood
We started fishing in the Halls Canyon area at 2:30 pm on Wed. We quit at 7 pm having caught 116 fish consisting of 4 nice LM, 5 stripers, a walleye, and the rest were smallmouth. Most fish came on the Ned Rig.
Thursday morning we started near the same area using top water for several hours and again it was pretty good. We then had a DR gas stop and busted up to Wilson Creek in the San Juan after a brief stop in Wayne’s Canyon looking for stripers. Wilson Creek did have a lot of fish but the average size was not as good as down south.
We ended up fishing the last 90 min of our trip in the back of Navajo but only 1 striper and a few smallmouth was all we had to show for it. We did add a few more walleye, a crappie, some more good LM and a bunch of smallies up in the SJ. More stripers were also caught in the backs of canyons right with the bass using the TRD.
Warmest pm water was 73, 68 degrees in the morning.

Almost perfect temps today for an afternoon of fishing. 3 of us fishing from 2:30-7 caught 116. Five stripers, 4 LM all about 2 1/2 lbs, and the rest were your smallie pals. Stopped near West Canyon and never fired the big motor up till it was time to come in. We’ll go back in the area with top water in the AM till DR opens for gas and then on up to the SJ and back to Flag by 7 tomorrow evening.
