Doepke Fishing Report

Steve Doepke, Tony & Connor Gilbert of Phoenix caught 290 striper in the Neanderthal area from Tuesday, 7/4 to Friday morning 7/7.

Wayne's fishing report was right on, the slurps have weakened from several weeks ago and the stripers were hungry and hitting good on bait.

Our targets areas were points in 40' of water near a drop offs. You need to use constant chum to locate and keep the school under the boat, but when the school stayed under the boat it was "game on" with double and triple hookups. Fish were healthier than two weeks ago and fought well. We used Carolina rigs with a small weight and 10lb fluorocarbon leader. Target depth was thirty feet deep, but once the school was going you could position your bait anywhere between 10 - 30'  to hookup.

We had the pleasure to meet and fish with Mark Wollgast and family from Phoenix. Its always nice to meet other fisherman on the water and help each other catch fish.

Doepke fishing will be back in September!!!
