May 2, 2017 - Bait working at Bullfrog

Launched out of Bullfrog about 8 AM. Decided to fish the mouth of Halls Creek for Stripers. Cast out an anchovy tipped jig head and 30 seconds later the fight was on. I had fished here before and read a report of others catching sripers just left of the entrance this year. We continued to catch till we were hot enough to find shade for lunch. Two of us had landed about 20 by then. Mostly good and healthy.

Found a rock pile in the shade and lunch was delayed by smallmouths. Landed about twenty of those in an hour or so. Around 6 PM we went back to the mouth and caught a few more stripers on anchovy along with one walleye and one striper on a spoon. Could not stay another day due to work.

Of note: stripers did not hit our circle hook lines. Did catch them on jigs from 1/16 to 3/8 oz. I felt that the 1/16th was best but it also had the smallest flurocarbon line. Could see the fish on the graph but they had little interest for spoons. The area we caught most of them is a point that juts out a little with some 40' to 20' depth on the sides. Smallies liked the 1/16 with a body and seemed to be feeding best where the steep wall met the rocks.
